HIAP

Helsinki International Artist Programme is an international artist residency organisation in Helsinki. The programme offers its resources to a community of artists from Finland and abroad. HIAP has acted as a key organiser of artist residencies in Finland since 1998.

The visual identity created for the organisation hails from the Morse Code — a semaphoric system by Samuel Morse used in long-distance communication. The idea of code for the visual language was inspired by HIAPs distinctive island location.

HIAP Code

Decorative typeface used throughout the identity

TYPEFACE
SCTO Grotesk A

The HIAP code typeface is used throughout the identity to break and disturb the otherwise straight forward typography. The simple square and circle symbols are squished and scattered to break the visual effect. The straight forward type is laid in Schick-Toikkas SCTO Grotesk A.

Here the morse code spells out the title and the open studios participants and creates a weird line at the bottom of the page.
